The 15th Biennial SASMA Conference is to be held on 24-27 October at the Wild Coast Sun in KwaZulu Natal. It is an excellent venue, having recently been revamped. A strong scientific and social programme is being organised.

The 3rd Transact Triathlon Congress will take place on Friday 12 April 2013 in Port Elizabeth, prior to the SA Ironman event on Sunday 14 April 2013. The conference is a combined SASMA and SAMSIG initiative. Triathlon-related topics will be discussed. SAMSIG will present radiology case reports relevant to triathlon.

The two-day short course culminating in a university certificate of competence (for those who successfully complete the attendance and assessment, which is a MCQ test), provides insight into the planning of medical services for a football event both from the perspective of mass gathering medicine and emergencies on the pitch. It illustrates the specificities of emergency medicine in the football environment and the interdependence of football medicine and emergency / mass gathering medicine in this setting considerably benefitting both specialties.
