This year we are excited to announce the inclusion of a South African Sports Medicine Association (SASMA) track at the 8th Vitality Wellness and Fitness Convention. The SASMA Track will include a number of respected local and international presenters.  The purpose of this track is to promote physical activity as a successful means to preventing and managing chronic illness in both general and special populations, and provides a practical approach to doing so. The track will also serve as launch pad for the global “Exercise is Medicine™” initiative in South Africa.

The SASMA track is just one of 8 different health professional tracks running concurrently at the convention. As a registered delegate you will also have access to all these tracks. Highlights for this year’s event include:

What you can experience at the 8th Vitality Wellness and Fitness Convention

With 9 different tracks and over 65 sessions to choose from, the 8th Vitality Wellness and Fitness Convention provides a credible platform that allows for the sharing of knowledge and peer to peer networking opportunities within the health, wellness and fitness industry. As an attendee, you will have access to the following tracks:

1.       Sports and exercise medicine track – (NEW)
The sports and exercise medicine track, in association with the South African Sports Medicine Association (SASMA), will include a number of respected local and international presenters.  The purpose of this track is to promote physical activity as a successful means to preventing and managing chronic illness in both general and special populations, and provides a practical approach to doing so. The track will also serve as launch pad for the global “Exercise is Medicine™” initiative in South Africa.

2.       Biokinetics and physical wellness track
The Biokinetics and Physical Wellness track is delighted to present local and international experts from a number of areas related to physical activity.  The programme not only includes practical and relevant clinical information around rehabilitation and sports-related interventions, but also addresses the important area of physical activity promotion for health.

3.       Sports coaching and high performance track
The Sports Coaching and High Performance track will bring together some of the most influential minds, opinion leaders and athletes in the South African sports performance landscape, including national level coaches and high performance managers.  Aimed at inspiring and educating coaches and teachers at all levels, the topics tackled will include player management, motivation, integration of sports science, the role of the coach and athlete development.  The track also includes input from numerous athletes and coaches who would have recently returned from the London Olympic Games, and share their personal experiences and strategies for going ‘faster, higher, stronger’, regardless of competitive level.

4.       Corporate wellness track
This track will bring together leaders in health promotion, representing some of the largest and most successful workplace, clinical, educational and community programmes. The goals of the Corporate wellness track  is to provide a forum for engaging discussions among practitioners, scientists, clinicians and business managers on the most effective health promotion strategies. It also aims to provide a platform for top scientists and practitioners on what we know about strategies to enhance motivation, build skills, and create environments that make the healthy choices the easiest choices.

5.       Kids’ wellness track
The kids track will include local and international leaders in kids’ health promotion.  The sessions will focus on practical application of best practice ideas to combat the behaviours which are putting our youth at risk of diseases of lifestyle.  The sessions will give parents, coaches and teachers ideas to get kids off the couch and playing outside again as well as strategies to motivate them to eat healthier

6.         Nutritional track
The key focus of the Nutrition track in 2012 is to provide practical, take home messages around a variety of relevant issues in the context of the South African market specifically.  A number of topical discussions around food and nutrition will take place, including the environment, human behaviour, technology and popular diets, led by exciting local and international experts who are leaders in their respective fields.

7.       International Athletes Services Forum track – (NEW)
The International Athlete Services Forum track will include a number of international presenters and delegates from around the globe.  The purpose of this track is to share advances and knowledge in athlete lifestyle, career and education programme management as well as practical service delivery. It will also aim to foster and promote the development and implementation of elite athlete lifeskill programmes on a global basis through international collaboration.

8.       Personal training track
Packed with two days of theory based sessions, this track will offer industry insight, latest trends and what is happening in the personal training landscape. Look forward to a numbers of informative and inspiring presentations that will benefit both you and your training clients.

9.       Group Training track
The Group Training track will again focus on practical group based exercises. Delegates will be able to attend the Group Training Track separate from the convention and it will include over 20 practical sessions from local and international speakers. Sessions include the latest trends in aerobics, spinning, mind/body and other group based exercise classes. This year the track will take place at the Sandton Convention Centre.
