The two-day short course culminating in a university certificate of competence (for those who successfully complete the attendance and assessment, which is a MCQ test), provides insight into the planning of medical services for a football event both from the perspective of mass gathering medicine and emergencies on the pitch. It illustrates the specificities of emergency medicine in the football environment and the interdependence of football medicine and emergency / mass gathering medicine in this setting considerably benefitting both specialties.
Aims:
- To create an awareness and appreciation of the emergency medical issues around national and international football events (from single matches to competitions).
- To provide the organisers and medical care providers at these football events with a reference in their planning, organisation and conduction of emergency service to players, officials, audience.
- To provide the background and details of the anticipated medical management issues to participants
Target group: Team physicians, event physicians, emergency medicine physicians, paramedical emergency personnel and other healthcare professionals
The course is based on the FIFA “Football Emergency Medicine Manual” published on occasion of the 2010 FIFA World Cup South Africa™ and written by the presenting faculty. The course has been accredited by F-MARC (FIFA Medical Assessment and Research Centre).
The course includes the Football Emergency Medicine Manual, teas and lunches.
